Crossing to Chile from Bariloche, Villa La Angostura and San Martín de los Andes

Four passes, each with its own road on the other side. Their status changes with the weather: check it on the day.

Cardenal Samoré

The pass for Bariloche and Villa La Angostura: it links Villa La Angostura with Osorno via National Route 231. It's the most used crossing from the corridor.

Hua Hum

From San Martín de los Andes to Panguipulli, via provincial route 48 and Lake Pirihueico.

Mamuil Malal

Links Junín de los Andes with Pucón, at the foot of the Lanín volcano.

Pino Hachado

Links Las Lajas with Temuco via National Route 242. It's the farthest of the four, but it's the crossing used by trucks and buses and usually copes better with winter: it's the plan B when another pass is closed.

Before you cross

  • Check on the day whether the pass is open and its hours: with snowfall they can close at short notice.
  • Check the official Pasos Internacionales website for the documents required for people and vehicles.
  • Chile controls the entry of plant and animal products: declare them when you cross.
