What it connects

Las Lajas, in Neuquén, with Liucura, in Chile, along National Route 242; on the other side the road continues to Temuco. It is the farthest of the four, but it is the crossing used by trucks and buses and tends to hold up better in winter: it is plan B when Samoré is closed.

Opening hours and time difference

The pass's opening hours change with the season: today's are shown above, as published by Pasos Internacionales.

Mainland Chile is one hour behind Argentina during its winter time, from the first Saturday in April to the first Saturday in September; the rest of the year, both sides keep the same time. Bear it in mind if someone expects you at a set time on the other side.

What to bring

This is Argentina's official list, written for people who live in Argentina. If you travel with a passport from another country or in a car registered abroad, check what applies to you with the Chilean consulate before you set off.

  • Digital DNI —the card or the light-blue booklet, latest issue— or a passport. A handwritten DNI, a receipt for a DNI still being processed or a damaged document are not accepted.
  • Minors: with both parents, something that proves the relationship (the minor's DNI showing the parents' details, the birth certificate or the family booklet); with only one parent, the other parent's authorisation.
  • By car: form OM-2261 for the temporary exit and admission of the vehicle, the cédula verde (or the cédula azul if you are not the owner), your driving licence and proof of valid compulsory insurance.
  • Food: Chile controls anything of animal or plant origin coming in; declare it when you cross.

In winter

With snow or ice, Pasos Internacionales may require chains to cross, and the pass can close at short notice. Both notices appear above, in today's status: check it before you set off, and leave early.

Before you go

From the corridor it is a long drive to the pass: leave with enough time to get there within opening hours, and check the roads on the way too.
