Bariloche: everything at hand
The largest town in the corridor: the civic centre, restaurants, chocolate shops and the widest choice of tours leaving from your door. In winter it's all about Cerro Catedral; in summer, the Circuito Chico and Llao Llao.
Pick your area by plan: downtown to walk everywhere and eat out, Avenida Bustillo for lake views and quiet, and the Catedral area if you're coming to ski. In July and from December to February, book ahead.
Dina Huapi: close to everything, without the bustle
A quiet town on the eastern shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi, about 15 km from Bariloche and close to the airport. It has pebble beaches and a lakeside promenade, and prices are usually lower than in the city.
A good base for families with children and for road trips: the Limay river valley starts right there.
Villa La Angostura: calm and forest
A mountain village on the lake, with Los Arrayanes National Park at its doorstep and Cerro Bayo —a smaller, family ski area— a few minutes away. It's quieter than Bariloche and a favourite for couples and families.
It sits at the southern end of the Seven Lakes Road, making it the natural base to drive it at an easy pace.
San Martín de los Andes: tidy and walkable
An alpine-style town on Lake Lácar, within the Lanín National Park area. Chapelco is its mountain; in summer, the beaches of Catritre and Quila Quina.
It closes the corridor to the north: the Seven Lakes Road starts (or ends) here.
