The route
The Seven Lakes Road is the stretch of National Route 40 linking Villa La Angostura and San Martín de los Andes. Without stops it takes around 1 h 45, but the point is to take it slowly, stopping at the viewpoints and beaches.

When to go and what to check
You can drive it all year round, but in winter the road may have snow or ice and temporary closures. Before you set off, check today's status of Route 40: Vialidad Nacional publishes it and we show it with the time of the last update.
There are few places to refuel along the way: leave with a full tank.
Where to stay
Villa La Angostura at the southern end and San Martín de los Andes at the northern end are the two natural bases. Many people do it as a day trip there and back; others spend a night at each end.
